At the invitation of the President of Southwest Forestry University (SWFU), the Vietnamese delegation led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – Vice President of Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF), attended the Forum on Cooperation in Forestry and Innovation between China and South Asian countries. The forum took place in Kunming City, China, from June 18 to June 20, 2025.

The event was attended by nearly 100 delegates, including leaders from the Departments of Science and Technology, Forestry, and Education and Training of Guangxi Province; as well as leaders and scientists from forestry universities in China and South Asian countries.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Doi – Opening Remarks at the Forum
In his opening remarks at the forum, Vice President Bui The Doi emphasized the crucial role of forestry not only in the economy but more importantly in its environmental value and ecosystem balance. Therefore, international cooperation in education, scientific research, and innovation in the field of forestry is essential, especially in the context of globalization and the recent issuance of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, by the Politburo of Vietnam on breakthrough development in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam – Keynote Presentation at the Forum
Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam – Head of the International Cooperation Department, delivered a keynote speech at the forum on *International Cooperation in Plant Biodiversity Conservation Research*.
During the forum, delegates shared many important research findings in forestry, forest resource management, and biodiversity conservation. They also proposed several solutions and directions for cooperation in education, scientific research, and innovation among the participating universities in the near future.
During their time in China, the Vietnamese delegation held working sessions with the leadership of Yunnan Forestry Academy, the Faculty of Forestry, the Institute of Wood Industry and Materials of Southwest Forestry University to discuss strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual expertise.
In recent years, Southwest Forestry University, China, has welcomed more than 40 Vietnamese staff members and students to study, conduct research, and participate in exchange programs in forestry, landscape architecture, forest resource management, wood science, and interior design.
The business trip was a great success and opened up many opportunities for cooperation with Chinese and regional partners in the future.
