On November 18, 2025, the Dong Nai Branch of the University of Forestry (VNUF2) organized an International Academic Exchange on "Wood Science and its Applications in Wood Identification".
The program was attended by Prof. Qiu Jian from Southwest Forestry University (SWFU), a leading university in training and research in the fields of Wood Science, Materials Technology, and Applied Forestry. Several lecturers and more than 100 students from the Faculty of Industry and Architecture.

Overview of the seminar with Southwest Forestry University of China
The objective of the program was to exchange knowledge and science, as well as technology applications, in the field of modern forestry, particularly in the field of Wood Science.

Delegates and guests checked in at the seminar
The seminar focused on exchanging academic issues, technology, and methods of wood material appraisal in the context of modernization and digital transformation of the forestry industry. Main contents include:
1. Introducing modern methods in wood structure identification and classification:
Prof. Qiu Jian shared the latest research results in using microscopic imaging technology and wood cell structure simulation to determine species characteristics - the foundation for sustainable forest resource management.
2. Application of artificial intelligence (AI) in wood appraisal and identification: Advances in AI, Machine Learning, and image recognition technology have been and are being integrated into material appraisal systems, helping to shorten analysis time, improve accuracy, and minimize errors in wood identification - especially in the fight against illegal timber trafficking.
3. Research cooperation orientation between VNUF2 and SWFU in the following areas:
- Training, exchange of lecturers and students;
- Implementation of joint research topics on wood materials technology and forest resource conservation;
- Support for organizing international seminars, workshops, and internship programs.
4. Sharing practical experiences from international experts: Prof. Qiu Jian shared typical examples in applying scientific research results to forest management in China, and encouraged Vietnamese students to boldly participate in international cooperation projects on resource conservation and biological materials development.

Prof. Qiu Jian presented a discussion paper at the seminar
Speaking at the program, Dr. Nguyen Sy Ha, Deputy Director in charge of the Branch, said: "The seminar is not only an opportunity to learn professionally but also a step forward in the process of international academic integration of the Forestry University Branch. VNUF2 is always ready to cooperate with prestigious universities in the world to create conditions for lecturers and students to access advanced knowledge, contributing to improving research capacity, training, and sustainable development."

Dr. Nguyen Sy Ha spoke at the seminar.
With the active participation of lecturers and students, the seminar not only provides in-depth knowledge of wood science but also arouses the passion for research, the spirit of integration, and creativity in the VNUF2 student generation.
The event is the first step in a series of international academic and research cooperation activities between VNUF2 and SWFU in the coming time, aiming to build a modern, globally connected training, research, and innovation environment.
